James Weatherhead

From Graces Guide

Shipbuilder of Brounsbank, Eyemouth, Berwickshire

1841 James Weatherhead, a native of Tweedmouth, having served an apprenticeship as a boatbuilder, began in business in Eyemouth. His first fishing boat, Pride of Scotland, was built by the short-lived partnership of Hall and Weatherhead. He developed a reputation as a builder of deep sea fishing boats for fishing stations all along the East Coast of Britain. He was the first in Scotland to introduce the full-decked fishing boat and was responsible for many other improvements. In 1902 he retired and was succeeded by his son James. He died in 1905, in his 92nd year.[1]

1894 The steam vessel Scotia was constructed by James Weatherhead, Eyemouth, for Mr. Richard Irwin of North Shields.

1930 The business was offered for sale as a going concern.[2]
