James and George Stodart

Whisky merchants.

1835 Established. The firm were particularly associated with the Old Smuggler brand of blended Scotch whisky.

1920 James and George Stodart Limited was registered as a private company, with capital of £20,000, to carry on the businesses of wine and spirit merchants, cigar and tobacco merchants, distillers, blenders and shippers.[1]

1923 The company went into voluntary liquidation.[2]

1926 A new company of the same name, address and share capital of the original was registered.[3]

1937 The company went into voluntary liquidation.[4]. It was immediately replaced by another private company of the same name, with capital of £3,000.[5] This reconstruction was part of a larger reorganisation relating to the establishment of Hiram Walker and Sons (Scotland) and the development of a massive grain distillery at Dumbarton.

2006 The company changed its name to Old Stewart Limited before it was dissolved in 2011.[6]
