Job Isles





Job Isles (1842-1919) Engineer of Leeds., founded Isles.
Son of Thomas Isles, a cloth weaver and Mary Isles (nee Wade) and born in Farsley, near Leeds.
1861 Living at 28 Well Street, Farsley: Thomas Isles (age 52 born Farsley), Woollen Weaver. With his wife Mary Isles (age 49 born Farsley), Woollen Weaver and their children Peter Isles (age 22 born Farsley), Woollen Weaverand Job Isles (age 18 born Farsley), Woollen Weaver.[1]
1865 September 4th. Married at Westgate Chapel to Ellen Parkinson. Both of Farsley.[2]
1883 June 12th. Death of his son William age 17.[3]
1886 Job's wife Ellen died on 22nd December age forty two. [4]
1891 January 20th. Death of his daughter Mary Ann.[5]
1891 Living at 10 Irwin Street, Calverley with Farsley: Job Isles (age 48 born Farsley), Steam Crane Manufacturer and Widower. With his children; Clara Isles (age 15 born Farsley); Hannah B. Isles (age 14 born Farsley); Emily Isles (age 10 born Farsley); and Ruth Hettie Isles (age 8 born Farsley). Two servants.[6]
1892 Job purchased Prospect House, Back Lane, Farsley. [7]
1893 March. Report of celebrations for his marriage[8] to his maid Emily Ann Kidd (age 29). She died 3 years later aged 33.
1904 Married Gertrude Agnes Bromley, aged 21. They had 6 children [9]
1919 September 22nd. Died, almost 77 years old. A stained glass window was made in his honour, see images.
He is buried in the family grave in Bagley Lane Cemetery, Farsley. [10]
Probate. Job Isles of Prospect House, Farsley granted to Gertrude Agnes Isles,widow, John Benjamin Keighley, engineer and Benjamin Fawcett Hollings, bank manager.
He had supported the Baptist Church since he was 21, managed the burial ground for 25 years and founded the Farsley Liberal Club of which he was the President for 15 years. He was also a generous philanthropist and in 1902 purchased a convalescent home, The Sunnyside Hydro, in Southport. [11]

Priscilla Isles died 11th March 1879 age 5 years 4 months.
Hannah Bertha Isles died 8th March 1892 age 15
Sarah Alice Isles died 30th September 1879 age 7 months
