John Colville
John Colville (1852–1901) of David Colville and Sons.
1852 3 July: Born son of David Colville at Glasgow
He acquired a knowledge of iron manufacture at the Clifton works. He married, first, Janet, daughter of Dr Joseph Brown of Glasgow, and then Christian, the daughter of Provost Downie of Kirkintillock, with whom he had one son and one daughter.

JOHN COLVILLE died at his residence on August 22, 1901, at the age of forty-nine.
He was born in Glasgow and educated at the Hamilton and Gartsherrie Academies.
In 1871 he settled down in Motherwell and co-operated with his father and brothers in the establishment of the Dalzells Ironworks, but in 1880 they went into the steel trade, and the works became known as the Dalzell Steel and Iron Works.
Latterly however he left the active management of the works chiefly to his brothers, Messrs. David and Archibald Colville, and devoted the major portion of his time to his parliamentary duties. He was Member of Parliament for North-East Lanarkshire from 1893 until his death. He was a Town Councillor of leis burgle from 1879 to 1882, and Provost from 1888 to 1895. He was also a Justice of the Peace and County Councillor for Lanarkshire.
He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1880.
