1844 June 12th. Born at 5 Oakley Street, Lambeth, to John Sainsbury (1809-1863), ornament and picture frame maker, and his wife Elizabeth Sarah Coombes (1817–1902)

1851 Residing at 7 Short Street, Lambeth: John Sainsbury (age 41 born St. Saviour, Surrey), Composition Maker. With his wife Elizabeth (age 34 born St. George, Surrey), with two daughters and son John Sainsbury (age 6 born Lambeth).[1]

1861 Residing at 32 Lower Marsh, Lambeth: John Sainsbury (age 16 born Lambeth), Shopboy. Shown as a servant in the of Richard J. Hall, an Oil Boilerman, and his wife.[2]

1868 Married at Holborn to Mary Ann Staple and had six sons and four(?) daughters

1869 Set up a dairy shop together at 173 Drury Lane, Holborn
