Born the son of John Lewis and his wife Eliza Baker

1891 Residing at Spedan Tower, Hampstead: John Lewis (age 55 born Shepton Mallet), Silk Mercer (and employer). With his wife Elizabeth Lewis (age 36 born Bridgwater) and sons John Spedan Lewis (age 5 born Marylebone) and Oswald Lewis (age 4 born Hampstead). Four servants.[1]

Educated at Westminster School

1901 Residing at Spedan Towers, Branch Hill, Hampstead: John Lewis (age 64 born Shepton Mallet), Silk Mercer (and employer). With his wife Eliza Lewis (age 46 born Bridgwater) and sons John Spedan Lewis (age 15 born Marylebone) and Oswald Lewis (age 13 born Hampstead). Three servants.[2]

1904 Joined his father's John Lewis department store

1914 Assumed control of his father's second shop, Peter Jones

1923 Married Sarah Beatrice Hunter and had three children, John Hunter (1924-1932), Jill (1927-1968) and Edward Grosvener (1929-2008)

1928 With his father's death, Lewis officially formed the John Lewis Partnership

1963 February 21st. Died, of Longstock Park, Stockbridge.
