Born the son of John Lewis

1891 Residing at Spedan Tower, Hampstead: John Lewis (age 55 born Shepton Mallet), Silk Mercer (and employer). With his wife Elizabeth Lewis (age 36 born Bridgwater) and sons John Spedan Lewis (age 5 born Marylebone) and Oswald Lewis (age 4 born Hampstead). Four servants.[1]

Educated at Westminster School and Christ Church, Oxford

1901 Residing at Spedan Towers, Branch Hill, Hampstead: John Lewis (age 64 born Shepton Mallet), Silk Mercer (and employer). With his wife Eliza Lewis (age 46 born Bridgwater) and sons John Spedan Lewis (age 15 born Marylebone) and Oswald Lewis (age 13 born Hampstead). Three servants.[2]

1928 Married Frances Merriman and had two children.

He was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) and entered the House of Commons upon the 30 May 1929 election. He held the seat until his defeat at the 1945 general election
