The Nestfield Works were originally occupied by the Blake Boiler, Wagon and Engineering Co
1908 'We understand that the directors of John Tinsley, Ltd., Darlington, have decided to make extensive additions to their shops and manufacturing plant. The company manufacture winches and hauling gear, both steam and electric driven for colliery work: also donkey winches for ships use, winches for shipyard and slipway hauling gears. In view of the increasing orders for plant, the company have taken the step mentioned.'[1]

1962 'The former chairman and managing director of John Tinsley Ltd, the Darlington engineering and mining firm. Mr. Robert Lesley Clark, has died in hospital. Mr Clark who succeeded his father as chairman...'[3]
