1743 Business established.
1882 The company was incorporated to acquire the business of manufacturing chemists Johnson and Sons[1]

1914 Moved to Hendon
1940 Acquired that part of the business of Ensign Ltd that was concerned with photographic equipment.
1948 The company became so closely identified with Hendon that the company name was officially changed from Johnson and Sons, Manufacturing Chemists Ltd to Johnsons of Hendon Limited. But Johnson and Sons had been using this business name in advertisements for at least two years previous to 1948, maybe since the end of WW2.
1953 Acquired by Houghtons (Holborn) Ltd. The name of the group was changed to Johnsons of Hendon[2]
1950s Connection with Neville Brown and Co in their advertising.
1953 Became a holding company with 6 divisions
1964 Shares in Johnsons of Hendon (Holdings) Ltd were quoted on Stock Exchange[3]
1965 Became part of Johnsons-H.P.L
1971 Acquired by Hestair which subsequently sold off some parts of the group.
1977 Sold by Hestair. Renamed Eumig (U.K.) Ltd
1982 Name changed to Johnsons of Hendon Ltd
A large collection of their manufactures is held by the London Science Museum.[4]
