1817 July 19th. Born the son of Josiah Gimson, Senior, a builder of Welford Road, Leicester and his wife Mary. Baptised on the 5th August 1817 at the Salem Chapel Free School Lane - Independent, Leicester. [1]

1851 Living at York Street, Leicester (age 33 born Leicester), Painter. With wife Sevilla (age 41 born Leicester) and children Benjamin G. (age 10 born Leicester) Josiah (age 7 born Leicester) and Joseph G. (age 7 months born Leicester). Plus a visitor. [2]

1853 Death of Sedilla, age 44, the wife of Joseph Gimson, Painter, of Welford Road. [3]

1854 November 7th. Death of Joseph Gimson, Painter of Welford Road, aged 37 [4]

By 1861 his two oldest sons are in the home of their uncle Josiah Gimson
