1843 Bankrupt. Joseph Horatio Ritchie, shipwright, Rotherhithe.[1]

1871 Residing at Diamond Terrace, Greenwich: Joseph Ritchie (age 71 born Glasgow), Surveyor, Lloyd's Register. With his son Joseph Ritchie (age 39 born Rotherhithe), Naval Architect (and single); and daughter Elizabeth 9age 37).[2]

1872 Died. 'regret to have to announce the death of Mr. Joseph Horatio Ritchie, which took place at Torquay on the 4th inst., in the year of his age. Until about a month since filled the responsible position being one of the Chief Surveyors to Lloyd's Register British and Foreign Shipping, when, in consequence of the continuance of long illness, he retired into private life. Mr. Ritchie had been a Surveyor to Lloyd’s Register for a period of nearly 30 years, consequently was well-known by large number of persons interested in our Mercantile Marine. There are but few men whose good fortune it has been to secure so many warm friends, and all those who have had to consult him in the onerous position he sustained can bear testimony to his worth. was greatly respected by the Shipowners and Shipbuilders of the country who were acquainted with him, and was, we believe, highly esteemed by the Committee and staff of Lloyd’s Register of Shipping.'[3]
