Born the son of Joseph Horatio Ritchie

1871 Residing at Diamond Terrace, Greenwich: Joseph Ritchie (age 71 born Glasgow), Surveyor, Lloyd's Register. With his son Joseph Ritchie (age 39 born Rotherhithe), Naval Architect (and single); and daughter Elizabeth 9age 37).[1]

1874 J. H. RITCHIE. Naval Architect and Surveyor. 106, Leadenhall-street, London, who prepare, complete drawings and specifications for vessels of all descriptions.[2]

c.1884 Mr. J. H . Ritchie, o£ London, was called in to help in the final design of the CS Monarch; he supervised the construction and installation of the engines by the builder David J. Dunlop and Co of Port Glasgow.
