Workers' cooperative of Liverpool based on the Fisher-Bendix factory
1961 Fisher and Ludlow moved their domestic appliance division to a purpose-made factory at Kirkby, Lancs , making Bendix washing machines, Fisholow stainless steel sinks and pressed steel radiators. The Kirkby factory could employ 3,000 workers.
By the mid-1970s the market for their products — night storage radiators, central heating radiators and (!) fruit juice was very gloomy.
Five owners had not made a trading profit from the factory
1974 Kirby Manufacturing and Engineering was established with a government grant to run the factory as a worker's cooperative
1978 Acquired by Worcester Engineering
