Trained to mech. eng. at James Milne and Sons, Ltd., Engrs., Edinburgh; Manager of the Oil Gas Enrichment Co. of Peebles, 1893-5; Gas Engr. to the Innerleithen and Walkerburn Gas Light Co. (Peeblesshire), 1895-1903; the first to take X-ray photos on the Borders a few months after the discovery of the rays; built first motor car in Scotland outside Glasgow district, 1897-8.
