1893 The firm was established by Roderick Macdonald and Alexander Muir.

1936 Macdonald and Muir Limited was registered as a private company, with capital of £250,000, to acquire and carry on the business of distillers, whisky, and wine merchants and rectifiers carried on by the firm of Macdonald and Muir at Queen's Dock, Leith, and elsewhere.[1]

1955 A fire which destroyed the neighbouring bonded warehouse of Hill, Thomson and Co in Leith spread to this company's bonded warehouse[2]
