Masson Mills

Masson Mills, Matlock Bath, Derbyshire, DE4 3PY.
Masson Mills Working Textile Museum shares the former mill of Sir Richard Arkwright and Co with the Masson Mills Shopping Village. It houses textile machines of the 19th and 20th Century laid out as in the Victorian Age, a number of machines being driven by line shafting. A Victorian workshop is now open for viewing. Stationary steam engines are also on display.
The original mill engine was scrapped, but, remarkably, a replacement is being installed in its engine house. It is a 600 HP engine made in 1884 by Yates and Thom and originally installed at Jubilee Mill, Padiham. Installation work is ongoing, and the engine can only be seen by visitors on pre-booked guided tours. More information here.
