1808 Partnership change. 'The Business heretofore carried on in Liverpool, in the County of Lancaster, by us the undersigned Scholes Birch, Maurice De Jongh, and John De Jongh, under the Firm of Maurice De Jongh and Company, is this Day dissolved by mutual consent, so far as relates to the said Scholes Birch, who retires from the said Concern.....'[1]

Between 1808 and 1810 the company placed advertisements as agents for the carriage of goods and passengers on ships. This was during a particularly hazardous period during the Napoleonic wars.
