1914 McKie and Baxter engine from SS Perth at Western Australian Maritime Museum. Denny Brothers were head contractors to the Western Australian government and subcontracted the hull build to A. E. Brown and Co, Fremantle.

c1896 Founded by James Archibald McKie and Peter MacLeod Baxter

1910 Made compound non-condensing engine, boiler and feathering paddle wheels for sternwheeler 'Etobe' for service in Northern Nigeria. Vessel built by Ardrossan Dry Dock and Shipbuilding Co[1]

1925 See Aberconway for information on shipbuilding h.p produced in 1904 and 1925

1927 McKie and Baxter Limited was registered as a private company, with a capital of £40,000, to acquire the firm of the same name, engineers, boilermakers and shipbuilders of Govan[2]

1931 The company merged with Campbell and Calderwood, the Govan works was closed and production concentrated in Paisley.[3] In some cases the firm took on contracts for complete vessels and sub-contracted the hulls.
