Monospar Co

From Graces Guide
1937.

The Monospar Co of 4, Broad Street Place, London, E.C.2.

Swiss engineer H. J. Stieger and others set up the company to exploit Stieger's patented concept of the monospar wing[1]

The idea of this form of wing construction was to have a single spar, placed in a position corresponding to the maximum depth of the aerofoil. At intervals strong former ribs were placed and the whole structure was stabilised by tension members. The leading edge was a tension member, as were also the diagonal bracing wires and the anti-drag member which, like the leading edge wire, ran parallel to the spar.

Construction took place at Croydon.

1931 General Aircraft Limited was formed at Croydon Aerodrome on 27 February, to take over the assets of the Monospar Co.

1933 Owns World Patents covering the Monospar system of construction. Head Office and Works: Air Port of London, Croydon, Surrey.[2]

1934 The Monospar Co was voluntarily wound up[3]

1934 In October, the company restructured and moved to Hanworth Aerodrome in Feltham.
