Newport Shipbuilding Co

From Graces Guide

Newport Shipbuilding Co. Ltd.

The company was owned by the Bailey family who, in 1953, took over an abandoned shipbuilding yard in Newport. This led to the formation of Atlantic Shipbuilding Co in 1953.

1950s The yard almost immediately received orders for three Great Lakes traders for Canadian companies. This led on to coasters ordered for the Cuban Government.

1960s The yard then built trawlers for British and Ghanaian companies. The yard then got into financial difficulties and was restructured under new owners as the Newport Shipbuilding Co

Shipbuilding ceased in 1970.
