1900 The royal charter of the Royal Niger Co was surrendered and the company renamed as the Niger Co[1]

The company was in the business of ship and transport owners, merchants, mine owners, and financial agents for many of the companies operating in West Africa.

1920 Lever Brothers made an offer to acquire all of the ordinary shares of the company[2]

1929 Brought together by Unilever with another loss making concern, the Africa and Eastern Trade Corporation, in the United Africa Co.
