1951 Canadian and English Stores Ltd was incorporated and acquired a controlling interests in Pooles Central Warehouse Ltd and M. R. A. (Holdings) Ltd[1]
1953 Public offer of shares[2]. Eight more shops were opened in England and one in Canada.
1962 Northgate Group, industrial holding company, acquired Canadian and English Stores[3] in a reverse take-over. Northgate changed its name to Northgate and English Stores; S. R. Hogg was chairman. Acquired 6 further stores even before the deal was complete.[4]
1966 Northgate and English Stores split into Combined English Stores for retail, and Northgate Group for all the manufacturing sites.[5]
