Shipbuilders

1932 'SALE OF SHIP-YARD
Messrs. P. K. Harris and Sons, a well-known firm of ship-builders and repairers have purchased the Richmond Dry-dock and the business and effects of Messrs. R. Cock and Sons, Ltd., at Appledore. Local people will be glad to know that Messrs. Harris and Sons intend carrying on the work of the dock. Mr. Harris states that there is no doubt business will increase. The steamers of Messrs. Cock and Sons have been sold, and the repairs now being carried out to the Orenie in Richmond Dock, prior to sending her to her new owners, will be continued byhim. Some time they hope to finish the construction of a sister ship to the Orenie. At present Messrs. Harris and Sons employ about 80 hands, who are engaged entirely on ship repair and kindred work.'[1]
