A paddle steamer

1855 Built by the famous Glasgow shipbuilders J. and G. Thomson using advanced ship building techniques of the time (which propelled the Clyde to world-wide steamship building).

1862 Iona was purchased to be used a blockade runner in during the American Civil War.

1862 October: sank after a collision as she departed the Firth of Clyde.


2016 Considered for designation as a Historic Marine Protected Area
