Patrick David de Laszlo (1909-1980) of Celestion and McMurdo Instrument Co

Born in London on 26th March 1909, the fourth of the five sons of Philip Alexius de László and his wife Lucy Madeline Guinness.

Educated at Cambridge University; rather than continuing at Cambridge teaching economics, he decided to gain practical business experience.

Joined his brother Stephen to work on the design of miniature radio valves; formed the company High Vacuum Valve Co (later Hivac) which developed and manufactured these valves. Hivac was later sold to English Electric.

From 1937-1949, he was Managing Director of Celestion

1947 Group Captain Patrick de Laszlo, who was working for the government on manufacture of radar devices, was a director of the new non-profit company, International Aeradio, set up by the major State-owned British airlines to install and operate telecommunication and radio aids to navigation[1]

1953 Set up Patomic Ltd., manufacturing valveholders and connectors, at Portsmouth.

Post-1953: Founded Halmatic Ltd., he was Managing Director from 1950-1960

Set up Digital Systems to provide high speed data transmission over low power networks which was used by the police.

He was a director of Harwin Engineers of Portsmouth

1960 Chairman of the Economic Research Council

1963-5 Chairman of International Aeradio Ltd[2]

1972-6 Chairman of the Association of Independent Businesses

1980 Died
