Pegg and Co

From Graces Guide

of Morledge Mills, Derby

1824 The firm of Pegg and Co was established by Robert Pegg.

1899 Pegg and Company Limited were incorporated as a limited company.[1]

1908 Pegg and Ellam Jones Limited was registered, with capital of £15,000, to acquire the business of colour and paint manufacturers carried on by Pegg and Company Limited at Morledge Mills, Derby, and elsewhere.[2] The amalgamation of the two Derby companies allowed the building of an entirely new and modern factory to cope with the increasing export business done with South America and the Continent. Pegg and Co were the original makers of the world-famous Derby reds. Ellam, Jones and Co were the inventors and sole makers of Markeaton Red, used by the principal English and foreign railway companies for their signal arms, etc., also by the principal corporations for their fire appliances, and post office pillar boxes.[3]
