"PERCY JOHN NEATE was one of the oldest Members of the Institution, having been elected as far back as 1883.
After receiving his technical education he entered the works of the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway at Brighton, in 1877, as a pupil and passed through the shops and drawing office. On the completion of his training two years later he was employed as superintending erector of hydraulic machinery. Later he acted as assistant foreman in the fitting shop at Brighton and subsequently was engaged on the design of experimental apparatus. He then became a partner in the firm of Messrs. Taylor and Neate, Medway Works, Rochester, and took over the charge of the engineering department. Mr. Neate went into retirement about 1903. His death in his ninetieth year occurred in September 1948."----
