1953 The Port of Bristol was the only large port in the United Kingdom belonging to a municipality. The corporation of Bristol owned the entire dock system. It was also the conservator of the port and the local light house authority. The administration was vested in a committee of the Corporation acting under the title of the Port of Bristol Authority.
