1954 8th June. Formed as a private company to manufacture radios, televisions and radiograms; acquired Banner Radio and Television and took over the business of Sobell Industries.
1956 June. Radio and Allied bought McMichael Radio, a small public company also based in Slough, for £345,000.
1958 May. Incorporated as a public company. Increased share capital. Had 134,000 sq ft factory at Hirwaun, Aberdare, South Wales. Michael Sobell was chairman; Arnold Weinstock was one of the 2 joint managing directors.[1]
1960 Acquired Masteradio.[2]
1961 Manufacturers of "Sobell" and "McMichael" radio and television receivers and radiogramophones. 2,000 employees. [3]
1961 On 28 February, it was announced that Radio and Allied had been acquired by GEC for £8m making the Sobell family GEC's largest shareholder.[4]
