RICHARD BROWN died at Southampton on January 21, 1910.
He was horn on January 3, 1833, at Morham, Haddingtonshire.
He commenced his career in Glasgow about the year 1847, and after a few years' service with a firm of engineers he secured an appointment with the Falkirk Iron Company, which he retained for about two years, when he was offered a position with the North Woodside Ironworks, Glasgow.
He continued with the latter company until 1857, when he was selected to fill the position of agent and representative to the Shotts Iron Company, from which he retired in 1873 on account of ill-health.
He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1872. In 1879 he read a paper before the Institute on the "Neutralisation of Phosphorus in Steel and Steel-like Metals."
