Manufacturing Chemist.
1896 Richard Smith's Executors Limited was registered, with capital of £50,000, to acquire and carry on the business of the late Richard Smith, manufacturing chemist, Glasgow.[1]
1945 It was reported that Scottish Tar Distillers had acquired the whole of the business interests in Scotland of Richard Smith Limited of Glasgow and Paisley, and of the Shettleston Oil and Chemical Co Limited, Glasgow. The tar distillation sections of the two companies were to be conducted thereafter by Scottish Tar Distillers, while the acid and chemical departments would continue to be carried on by Richard Smith at their West Street Works in Glasgow.[2]
