Tar distillers and oil manufacturers.

1890 The Shettleston Oil and Chemical Company Limited was registered, with capital of £5,000, to develop the coal tar or chemical works or carbonising works carried on at Mount Vernon, Lanarkshire.[1]

1945 It was reported that Scottish Tar Distillers had acquired the whole of the business interests in Scotland of Richard Smith Limited of Glasgow and Paisley, and of the Shettleston Oil and Chemical Co Limited, Glasgow. The tar distillation sections of the two companies were to be conducted thereafter by Scottish Tar Distillers, while the acid and chemical departments would continue to be carried on by Richard Smith at their West Street Works in Glasgow.[2]
