ROBERT INGHAM CLEGG went to America after completing his apprenticeship with Messrs. Howard and Bullough of Accrington in 1886, and spent the remainder of his life in that country.
After three years in charge of erection work for Messrs. Collins Brothers of Central Falls, R.I., he became superintendent for the Electrical and Manufacturing Company of Providence, R.I.
In 1892 he joined the Cross Pen Factory as a designer, and afterwards took charge of the manufacture of fountain pens and machine engraving upon hard rubber, pearl and precious metals.
About this time he commenced the literary work in which he was exclusively engaged during the latter part of his career, as mechanical editor of The Homeless Age.
In the spring of 1901 he became editor of the machinery department of The Iron Trade Review.
He afterwards became editor-in-chief of the Gardner Publishing Company and edited two technical journals entitled respectively Woodcraft and Castings, whilst later he was appointed an associate editor of The Iron Age.
Mr. Clegg was a native of Accrington, where he was born in 1866, and his death occurred at Cleveland, Ohio, on 3rd December 1931.
He had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1904.
