Note: This is a sub-section of Robert Stephenson and Co

1837 North Star, with 2-2-2 wheel arrangement, was built by Robert Stephenson and Co, designed with Daniel Gooch for the Great Western Railway. Originally intended for the New Orleans Railway, it was altered to suit the 7ft gauge and worked the first passenger train out of Paddington on 4 June 1838. A similar engine but with slightly smaller driving wheels followed: Morning Star. Another ten engines of the Star class were built in the next 2 years[1].
