Robert Valentine Macrory (1878-1954)

1922 M.I.E.E., Electrical Engineer, Electric Supply Station, Londonderry. T. A.: "Electric Station, Londonderry." b. 1878; s. of the late S. M. Macrory, J.P., C.C. Ed. Private school and Cheltenham College. Apprenticeship with Siemens Brothers, Ltd., Woolwich; attended classes at Finsbury Technical College and King's College. Appointed City Electrical Engineer to the Londonderry Corporation in May, 1898, which post he still holds; during this period, output has increased sixteen times; acted as Consulting Engineer to the Corporation, and in connection with many other schemes.

1954 Died. 'MR. R. V. MACRORY Long service Derry electrical engineer. The death occurred yesterday in a Londonderry nursing home which he had entered on Thursday of Mr. Robert Valentine Macrory, M.B.E., M.I.E.E., Clooney Park, city electrical engineer of Londonderry for 58 years. He was 80 years age. Mr. Macory was appointed city electrical engineer two years alter the station founded. During his tenure office as engineer the city has had a total of only three hours breakdown; a record it is believed for an undertaking of its kind in the British Isles. He is survived by his wife, two sisters and a brother.'[1]
