Robert Waterston was born in 1885 and at the age of eighteen was apprenticed to Andersons, Ltd., of Christchurch, N.Z.
On completion of his five years' apprenticeship, he spent two years in England gaining further experience with Dawfields, and Herbert Morris of Loughborough.
On his return to New Zealand, he rejoined Andersons, and in 1917 was appointed Manager of the Agencies Department of the firm, which position he held until his death on 8th April, 1927.
He was elected a Graduate of the Institution of Automobile Engineers in 1909 and an Associate Member in 1921.
