Originally built c.1839.

1868 Fitted with a Daboll reed fog signal.

1875 Height reduced by 40 ft.

Late 1880s: Electric arc lighting installed. Initially there were two steam-driven Meritens magnetos. Later replaced by Brush dynamos.

Engineered by Sir James Nicholas Douglass.

1901 St. Catherine's Point was the scene of comparative trials of various types of foghorns and sirens.
