"SAMUEL BURY received his education at the Municipal Technical School in Bolton, and served his apprenticeship with Messrs. J. and P. Coats, Ltd., from 1904 to 1907, and with Mr. T. A. Locke, engineer, from 1907 to 1909. After some experience as an erector and test engineer with the British Westinghouse Company, Ltd., he was employed by the Corporation of Bolton and placed in charge of plant.
In 1913 he joined Messrs. Barlow and Jones, Ltd., as an electrical engineer, subsequently becoming chief engineer. This position he held until 1921 when he went to Manchester to take up a similar appointment with Messrs. J. Hetherington and Sons, Ltd. On his return from Cairo in 1935, where he had acted as consulting plant engineer to the Banque Misr for two years, he became chief engineer at the cotton mills of Messrs. Knowles, Ltd., Bolton. Mr. Bury, whose death in his fifty-ninth year occurred on 8th December 1946, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1919. He was also an Associate Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers."
