Born at Rodborough the son of William Marling

1834 Married to Margaret Williams Cartwright and had three sons and two daughters

1851 Residing at Ebley: Samuel S. Marling (age 40 born Woodchester), Manufacturer of Woollen Cloth. With his children William H. (age 15), Charles (age 13), Ellen H. (age 11) and Ann L. (age 9).[1]

1858 Patent to Samuel Stephens Marling, of Stanley-park, in the county of Gloucester, Esq., and James Apperly, of Dudbridge, near Stroud, in the same county, Woollen Cloth Manufacturer, for the invention of " improvements in the construction of fulling machines."[2]

1863 Patent to Samuel Stephens Marling, of Stanley Park, in the county of Gloucester, Woollen Cloth Manufacturer, for an invention of " improved machinery for scouring, washing, and cleansing woollen cloths and other fabrics."[3]

1871 Residing at Stanley Park, Kings Stanley: Samuel S. Marling (age 60 born Gloucestershire), M.P., Woollen Manufacturer, Landowner, J.P. With his wife Margaret and sister-in-law Annette Rimington.[4]
