Seth Bevan (c1830-1888), builder of Plymouth

Born the son of Roger Bevan, a Mason.

1855 Married at Plymouth to Jane Brooking

1881 Residing at 2 Rochester Terrace, Plymouth: Seth Bevan (age 51 born Lewtrenchard), Contractor. With his wife Jane (age 51 born Plymouth), two daughters and two sons. Next house is his business partner David Derry Hubbard.[1]

Until 1882 of Hubbard and Co when he took over the business

1886 Plymouth. 'a reservoir to be constructed between the Marlborough and Granby bastions. A contract for over £5,000 has been entered into with Mr. Seth Bevan, of Plymouth, for the carrying out of this work'[2]

1886 Builder of the Theatre Royal, Exeter

1888 April 27th. Died. Shot himself six months after the fire at the Theatre Royal, Exeter, resulted in 188 deaths. The inquest verdict was given as 'anxiety in regard to business matters'.[3]
