Sharratt and Lisle

From Graces Guide

Early name of the Star Engineering Co

1876 Edward Lisle started a bicycle manufacturing partnership with Edwin John Sharratt in Poutney Street, at a factory known as Star Cycle works[1]. Edwin purchased a factory in Pountney Street; the new business was called Sharratt and Lisle. It seems that Edwin had no previous experience in manufacturing or mechanics and so that side of the business must have been left to Edward.

1879 Sharratt left to form his own business.

1883 Edward Lisle formed the Star Cycle Co but continued to sell bicycles under the Sharratt and Lisle name.

1887 Partnership dissolved. '...the Partnership heretofore existing between Edwin John Sharratt and Edward Lisle, trading as Sharratt and Lisle, at Poultney street, Wolverhampton, in the county of Stafford, as Bicycle Manufacturers, has been this day dissolved by mutual consent. The business will in future be carried on by the said Edward Lisle alone...'[2]

1887 J. W. Horsfield of Sharratt and Lisle. Partnership dissolved. [3]

1889 Made the Star Dwarf Safety Roadster. Acquired premises in Stewart Street, from Hinde, Harrington and Co who produced Desideratum bicycles

1891 Trademark by Edward Lisle [4]

1896 Edward formed Star Cycle Co Ltd with capital of £120,000 to take over the business.
