Simon-Carves Ltd., Cheadle Heath, Stockport.
The head offices of Simon-Carves Ltd., who are associated with Henry Simon Ltd. are also situated at Cheadle Heath. Simon-Carves are one of the most important colliery engineering firms in this country and are also well-known as power engineers. They specialise in the construction of coke ovens and by-product plants, coal washeries, coal and coke handling equipment, electrostatic precipitation plants, multiple drum boilers and boiler firing equipment.
Messrs. Simon-Carves are particularly busy in the coke oven section of the business having on hand big contracts for steel works and collieries in this country and India. During the past few months they have received orders for by-product coking plants from Dorman, Long and Co; Tata Iron, Steel and Coal Co. Ltd., India; William Dixon, Glasgow; Barber, Walker and Co; Shelton Iron, Steel and Coal Co; Consett Iron Co, and other important firms. The contract for 136 ovens received from Dorman, Long and Co. is the largest ever placed in this country for a coke oven installation.
In addition to coke oven work, Simon-Carves are also busily engaged in the erection of coal washeries at a number of important collieries and steel works. They have held the leading position in this class of work for many years and have been responsible for the construction of over two hundred washeries in Great Britain and abroad.
The installation of electrostatic precipitation plants for tar, dust, acid mist, etc. is another interesting branch of the firm's activities and one which has made rapid strides during the past few years. At the present time they have twenty of these plants in operation at collieries, steel works, and gas works. The Simon-Carves plant has the outstanding advantage of having no moving parts.
On the boiler side Simon-Carves Ltd. have been responsible for the installation of big boilers at a number of important generating stations, including Hackney Power Station, Princes Power Station, Birmingham, Wallasey Power Station, and at a number of collieries. They have played a leading part in the development of the pulverised fuel system of boiler firing and have a number of notable plants in operation.
