Telecom Securicor Cellular Radio
1982 A joint venture of British Telecom (60 percent) and Securicor (40 percent) formed to provide a radio telephone service under the brand name Cellnet[1]
1983 Cellnet was one of two companies granted a licence to operate mobile cellular telephone services in the UK.
1985 Started offering handsets for sale, competing with the other radio telephone operator Racal-Vodafone[2]
1999 Securicor, finding that its 40 percent of Cellnet did not allow it to sell to another operator, sold its stake to British Telecom[3]
