THEODORE WOOLLEY, whose death in his fifty-eighth year occurred on 15th July 1943, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1917. He was educated at Hillhead (Glasgow) High School and at the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical School and after serving his apprenticeship with Messrs. Barclay, Curle and Company, from 1902 to 1907, was employed on the shore engineering staff of the Union Castle Line and later served in one of that company's vessels as a refrigerating engineer.
He then joined the British India Steam Navigation Company and served at sea for three years as marine engineer. In 1912 he received an appointment as engineer and estimator to the Shanghai Dock and Engineering Company and was placed in charge of the workshops. Three years later he was appointed assistant mechanical engineer to the Asiatic Petroleum Company, North China, and held this position until 1927 when he became chief mechanical engineer to the Rising Sun Petroleum Corporation of Japan. He relinquished this post in 1939 and returned to this country to retire.
When the present war broke out, he accepted an appointment in London, being desirous of helping his profession in time of need. Unfortunately his health unexpectedly broke down, and he was never able to take up duties again.
