Thomas Chambers
A craftsman in iron
1745 Born in Rotherham, son of John Chambers (1722-1771)[1], who lived at Rawmarsh, Yorkshire.
1769 Married Hannah Oxley
As a young man he worked for the renowned iron founding business of Samuel Walker and Co in Rotherham.
1771 Birth of son Thomas.
As an experienced practical iron worker, he later moved to join a business at the Queen’s Foundry, Paradise Square in Sheffield, in partnership with James Smith, John Stacey, John Darwin, Richard Morton and John Thompson.
1789 Entered into a partnership with George Newton that would result in the founding of one of England's largest industrial companies of that era: Newton, Chambers and Co [2]
1793 He finally left Smith, Stacey and Co. in January 1793 to pursue his new business with George Newton.
1817 Died in Ecclesfield
