Thomas Galloway
Thomas Galloway (c1837-1915)
1915 Died. 'Captain Thomas Galloway, late of the Galloway Steam Packet Co, died at his residence at Cambus on Wednesday last. The deceased gentleman, who was in his 79th year, was a native of Cambus. He was a mariner of large and varied experience, having sailed to all the principal ports of the world. After giving up the long voyages. Captain Galloway joined the Galloway Steam Packet Company, with whom he spent the long period of 26 years, running pleasure steamers between Leith, Alloa and Stirling, and other ports on the Forth. He retired four years ago. The Captain was a well-known figure in Leith, Alloa, Stirling, and the other places along the shores of the Firth where the Galloway steamers were in the habit of calling. No mariner in his day knew the Forth better, and it a lasting testimonial to his careful navigation that he never had an accident with any steamer under his charge. Ever popular with passengers, the Captain had many friends who will long remember his alert and active figure on the bridge. He a staunch Unionist in politics, and member of Tullibody Established Church. He is survived by four sons and two daughters, three of the sons being at sea.'[1]
