1886 Sale Notice: 'To Manufacturing Confectioners, Sugar Boilers, Fruit Preservers, Machine Brokers, and others. CHARLES GRIFFIN has received instructions from Messrs. Thomas Guest and Co., to SELL BY AUCTION, on Tuesday, March 9th, 1886, at 11 o'clock, on the Premises, 45, Carnarvon-street, York-street, Cheetham, a large quantity of SURPLUS PLANT, &c, comprising two high-pressure horizontal steam engines, complete; excellent 25-horse power boiler, guaranteed to 60lb. pressure, equal to new; shafting, hoists, steam and gas piping, copper boiling pans, safe, rollers, sugar mills, jacks, work benches, partitioning, &c. also excellent hansom cab, by Forder, of Birmingham. On view morning of sale.— Catalogues now ready, and may had at the Auctioneer's office, Market-buildings, 17, Thomas-street.'[1]

1952 George Watkins photographed a horizontal steam engine at one of the works. It drove machinery by rope in the 5-storey building [2]
