1877 'Fontaine Bruff, financial agent and engineer to Messrs. Vickers and Cook, of London, contractors of the Severn Bridge Railway, appeared under remand on a charge of embezzling £l5O 10s., the property of Mr. Brown, a member of the firm. The prosecution withdrew from the case, and the defendant was discharged without any imputation on his character.'[1]
