Mr. Lawrie graduated at the University of Manchester in 1933 with a B.Sc. (Hons. Metallurgy) degree, and obtained his M.Sc. degree in 1938.

He was a University apprentice with the United Steel Companies, Ltd., and was Assistant Melting Shop Manager at the Workington Iron and Steel Co., Ltd.

He was later lecturer in Ferrous Metallurgy at Cumberland County Technical College.

Mr. Lawrie is at present H.M. Engineering Inspector of Factories.
