W. G. Guthrie has an excellent career, he did his apprenticiship at Harland and Wolff in Belfast and later became the production engineer for Buick and Oldsmobile. He left General Motors and was appointed the manager at Peerless and remained there until 1927. He was then made the regional production manager of General Motors. In 1930 he worked for Opel as works manager and special assistant general manager and in 1939 he became the assistant managing director of Vauxhall Motors.
